Are You Unhappy In Your Job?

If you are not among the happy employees, don't feel disheartened. You are not alone!

unhappy employeeExpert advises are showing staggering numbers. From an article written by Susan Adams, a Forbes Staff, it was surprising, at least to me, to read this, I believe you will too unless you knew it before. According to a report from Gallup, a Washington, D.C.-based polling organization, from 230,000 full-time and part-time workers in 142 countries, only 13% are happy. Meaning the majority, about 63% are “not engaged”, or slightly unhappy at work or already checked out. 24% are actively disengaged. You can get a free copy of the Gallup report about employee engagement.

Why should you bother to know if you are happy or unhappy in your job?

What is the point I want to make here? Am I happy because many workers are miserable at work? Definitely not. However in terms of personal motivation (how I love this word?), it may comfort you to know you are not alone – probably the reason you are looking around, isn't it?

The simple fact of feeling not alone has a lot of incentive, in my view, to create better commitment in your job search or in your current career. Well, it may incline you to:

  • Evaluate and fully understand why you are unhappy at work?

Because, let's face it. When and if you quit your current job, you should be aware that there are a large number of candidates who believe that they will be happy if they have your position. Hilarious, but it is a simple truth that makes the beauty of life

  • Focus more and be more strategic as you have made your mind based on tangible reasons.

Of course, assuming that you are not stupid!

So, why are there unhappy employees? Why hating your job?

There may be valid as well as “illegitimate” reasons that can make you an unhappy employee. However I don’t mean to know any illegitimate reasons. In fact who are you to judge.  This post will focus on the top valid reasons as outlined by Ilya Pozin on Huffingtonpost.com, originally appeared on LinkedIn Influencer program. You may read the full article Top 10 Reasons People Hate Their Jobs , but I have outlined them with few comnments below:

1. They think the grass is greener someplace else.

Sometimes it is very true. Company data are almost available on the web or you could check within your network. But, be careful to consider an holistic view of what you are about to do. Financial benefits and allowances are not the only incentive on the balance of employee satisfaction.

2. Their values don’t align with the company.

3. They don’t feel valued.

4. Job insecurity.

5. There’s no room for advancement.

6. They’re unhappy with their pay.

7. There’s too much red tape.

8. They’re not being challenged

9. The passion’s gone.

10. Their boss sucks.
